Dear Platte Geddes Elementary Parents,
Welcome to the start of a new school year! I am truly excited for the students to be back in the school building and for the start of a new school year. I’m hoping the students have had a great summer and had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time outside enjoying the new swimming pool, summer sporting activities, the beautiful Missouri River, and whatever their little hearts desired. Summer is a time for hobbies, relaxing, and becoming refreshed for the start of a new school year! If I haven’t told you, I LOVE being back in the Platte Geddes Area and LOVE my job as the elementary principal of the Platte Geddes School District. I do not ever take the job of working with you as parents, your children, or our teachers for granted. It is an honor to serve as your principal ad I take the duty and responsibility of educating children very seriously each and every day. I love the children we serve and want them to leave our school here having received a quality education in an atmosphere of safety, respect, and most of all kindness. The children we serve in our school should know they are welcomed and loved in our school each day. You as parents should also know your children are safe at school and you are welcome and valued as parents in the educational process.
During the summer I had the opportunity to read some research regarding parents and schools. The research was done on what was most important to parents when sending their children to off to school for another year of education. Parents listed their top five priorities at school in the following order:
1. “A safe and secure environment”
2. “A friendly and welcoming environment”
3. “A rigorous academic curriculum”
4. “Quality teachers”
5. “Keeping up with technological advancements in education”
We do stress safety as of high importance here at Platte Geddes Elementary and have made efforts to keep all kids safe while at school. We have and will continue to follow The Panther Way as our positive behavioral expectations and have recently set in place behavior expectations for our students for the recess playground, hallway, lunchroom, and bathrooms. We strive to continuously remind our students of these safe and respectful behavior expectations in our critical areas throughout the elementary school building. We also ask that you as parents join our safety effort when you pick up and drop off your children for school. Please remember to only pull up directly in front of the elementary building facing north and to not park or pull up across from the drop off area or facing south. Parking across the street from the school causes your child to have to cross the street where cars are moving and to cross between waiting parked vehicles. I have attached a parking map for clarity and explanation of the process. Please be respectful of the Handicap Parking Areas which are clearly marked and designated for the use of our handicap students and adults at all times.
Please feel free to call me or stop in my office if you have questions or concerns prior to the start of the school year. Stop in even if you simply want to say HI and introduce yourselves and your children to me before the school year begins! My office hours beginning August 1 will be from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. When school begins on August 24, I will be in the building each day prior to 7:30 am. I look forward to working together with you to provide for our students a positive learning environment where all children will begin to prepare for their roles as citizens in the 21st Century World.
Yours In Education,
